For my thesis I wanted to combine my illustrative and design skills together to create a fun Social Deduction card game.

To give a quick rundown, in this game, all players appear to be cult members — but one of them is secretly a skeptic, an infiltrator determined to expose the cult’s dark secrets and bring it down from within. The cult members must rely on deception, intuition, and psychological tactics to uncover the skeptic before it’s too late, all while maintaining the cult’s secrecy. Each player has unique abilities and hidden objectives, creating a tense battle of wits as cultists attempt to prove their loyalty and cast doubt on others. The game draws inspiration from 1980s goth subcultures, horror aesthetics, and the era’s hysteria surrounding cults.

The Process

During the development of my thesis, I researched the key elements of card games, explored 80s fashion, studied the “Satanic Panic” era, and determined the creative direction for various aspects of the project. In the end, I completed a card game featuring 20 cards (10 action cards and 10 character cards), a card back design, a coin, a custom box, and a rulebook.

Finish Line

I created a complete, functional card game and showcased it at thesis night, where I even managed to sell a few copies.
